Since 2014, I’ve worked for non-profit organisations to help them tell the stories of the people they exist to serve. Working in this sector means taking on many roles. I’m an ideas pitcher, a writer, a storyboarder, lighter, director, video shooter, audio-recorder, editor, podcast maker, photographer and amateur illustrator and animator. But, hands down, the most important role I perform is as a listener.
It is also my favourite part of my work. When I get to sit down with someone, ask them questions, and allow them the time and space to reflect meaningfully on their experiences.
Something magic always seems to happen when you listen deeply.
